It’s unexplainable, really. It is very difficult to put words to the love we feel for our own children. Just yesterday, I was talking to a friend on the phone and she was telling me how much she loved her child. She was on her way to pick him up from another caregiver, and she said, “I want him back. I love him so much, Taryn. I just can’t explain it. I know it sounds so cliche when people say this, but I think he’s the greatest thing ever.”
I saw another post this morning on social media of a mother who just gave birth yesterday. Her words spoke of feeling like her heart was going to explode with the love she already felt for her baby, and feeling so blessed to be given this gift of life and to be able to experience this.
Also yesterday, I photographed a couple with their almost-one-year-old little boy, and over and over again I saw this “bursting from the heart” love happening. There is something so special about looking at your child– every single detail– from their big eyes to the rolls on their thighs to the wispy hair and adorable giggles– and realizing they are yours. Most of the time, they have even come from our own flesh and blood, so we see resemblances of our spouse and ourselves in them. This bond is amazing and cannot be forced or manufactured out of practice… it is just a natural phenomenon that happens.
